Dogs are man’s best friend, but how much do we really know about them? Here are some interesting facts we found that you may not know about your furry best friend!
1. They have superpowers!
Well – not exactly, but they can see in the dark. On a dogs eye, there is a special membrane that humans don’t have called the tapetum lucidum. This allows them to see what we can’t in the dark!
2. They smell … everything
A dogs sense of smell is proven to be anywhere from 10,000 – 100,000 times greater than that of a human. It has also been shown that dogs can smell certain diseases in the body, or other things like a baby during pregnancy. So yeah, they smell (almost) everything!
3. Puppies are born deaf!
When they are first born their hearing has not yet developed, but it comes quickly as does speech. Once they can hear, though, they can hear four times farther than a human! They can also hear much higher pitched sounds than we can.
4. They sweat too!
They actually only sweat through the pads of their feet, unlike humans who sweat all over!
5. They love to cuddle just as much as we do!
Around 45% of dogs sleep in their owners bed. This means they must love us that much, too, right??
6. Feelings have a smell?
You scent changes slightly when your mood changes, and your dog can pick up on that! This is why they may act extra cuddly when you’re upset or want to play more when you’re happy. (In other words, they can totally smell your feelings!)
