How To Get A Well Behaved Dog

Dog training may be intimidating for first time pet owners. With so much conflicting information out there, it is easy to become overwhelmed. Read on for some simple, basic tips arranged to help you get started.

When doing crate training, train your dog incrementally rather than trying to do it all at once. Once your dog seems to have acclimated to the crate itself, close the gate and feeding him through it. In the beginning it is important to only leave the dog in the crate for a few seconds. After a while you will be able to leave them in the crate for longer amounts of time. If the dog shows signs of distress, you may be progressing too quickly.

Timing is everything in dog training, and you need to make sure you don’t overdo it. Start small and build up a bit daily. You can figure out when your dog isn’t paying attention during training.

Reward your dog’s good behavior. You and the dog should both remain calm. Don’t get too excited, though, as your excitement may cause them to break their concentration. Be calm, expect calm, then reward appropriately.

Be sure that your canine is consuming a healthy diet. It is entirely up to you to provide a good diet for your pet. If your dog isn’t getting what it needs to stay healthy, it could really struggle to find the energy for training or may act out in other ways. Something as simple as improving their diet can sometimes have a huge impact on how receptive they are to training.

Repetition is the key to success when teaching a dog a new command. It can take as many as 50 repetitions of one command before your dog learns it. Firmly and steadily repeat the command. Remain patient and eventually the command will be learned.

Hopefully, you have gained some knowledge from these tips. Use this advice to improve the success of your next dog training session.
